TOLERANCE ON THE EDGE – A NEW FILM PROGRAMME AT 13TH JFF ZAGREB

TOLERANCE ON THE EDGE – A NEW FILM PROGRAMME AT 13TH JFF ZAGREB

13.03.2019.

The novelty of this year’s edition of the Festival of Tolerance is the programme titled Tolerancie on the Edge with a selection of films that are specific for their pronounced artistic, provocative and brave characteristics. The films in this category stand out because of the innovative way with which they question socially relevant topics such as refugees, migrantion, human rights, sexual and related freedoms. They are all marked with a very powerful artistic creativity, controversial, oftentimes crude and without mercy yet entirely original and compelling.

One of the highlights of this year’s programme is the Austrian biographical film named Angelo, a story about the life of an African slave who was baptised, educated in the West and then accepted by the circles of aristocratic Vienna.  The film was made according to a true story about a slave who travelled around Europe only to end in a museum. It is a remarkable historical depiction of the treatment and dehumanisation of dark-skinned children at the beginning of the 18th century and the colonialism in Europe

This is the second film by Markus Schleinzer, known for his first film titled Michael, inspired by the case of Natascha Kampusch.

We would like to thank our long-time friends from the Austrian Cultural Forum in Zagreb / Österreichisches Kulturforum Zagreb.
