Jewish Film Festival Zagreb Association in opening an essay competition on the Holocaust and/or tolerance for schools that participate in the Educational Mornings program in the school year 2016/2017.
The goal of the competition is to make Educational Morning more then just a one time experience for the pupils, inciting them to think about the messages they heard on the program and to express themselves in a creative way, thus encouraging them to further educate themselves on the subjects covered.
The essay does not necessarily have to be related to the Educational Mornings program. Pupils have the freedom to write about anything that tolerance or the Holocaust represent to them. The length of text is limited to 2-4 pages of Word document (Times New Roman, font size 12 and 1,5 spacing), and the deadline for submissions is May 31st, 2017 (with the exception for the schools that took part at the program in Daruvar, for which, due to the date of the implementation of the program, the deadline is June 10th). Essays have to be written on a computer.
The best work will be published on the Festival of Tolerance web page and in the Educational Mornings booklet, and the school from which the author comes from will be awarded with equipment of their choice (computer, camera, TV, sports equipment...) in the value of 1.800,00 Croatian kunas.
Only works sent from schools that participated in Educational Mornings in the school year 2016/2017 will be considered. Pupils don’t send they works directly – their schools make the first selection instead and send up to 3 works to the competition organizer. A panel consisting of the Festival staff and Educational Mornings partners then evaluates the essays and declares a winner by June 12th, 2017. It is recommended that the Association receives unsigned works, and that the schools that make the preselection know the authors' names.
