WHO ARE ALL THE GUESTS AT 12. FESTIVAL OF TOLERANCE!?

Major Dodge

 

Major Dodge will be a guest at the Festival of Tolerance as a producer of a documentary film “Bomb City”. The film based on a true story depicts one of the most controversial hate crimes in contemporary American history and trial questioned faith in the justice of the American legal system. Actor, writer, producer and a model often points out his love for wrestling, and his versatile biography includes synchronization of all 12 dogs in the advertisement for Juicy Crittoure, a posh line of dog clothes.

Major Dodge will feature after the projection of his “Bomb City” film on Tuesday, April 10th at 9:00 P.M at Tuškanac cinema.

 

Edon Rizvanolli

 

Edon Rizvanolli is a Kosovar actor and director who lives and works in Amsterdam since 2005. He has a history of short experimental films and is the director of an award-winning documentary “Shuffle - Politics, Bullshit and Rock 'n' Roll” on an alternative music scene in Priština. To the Festival of Tolerance he comes with his first feature film “The Unwanted”. It is about the drama accompanying war refugees from Kosovo in Amsterdam, the problems and prejudices they face and the national identities that accompany the generations of immigrants, all through the love story between Ana and Alban. We will not reveal you too much, except that the film has already won many awards, and you will have the opportunity to see it on Thursday, April 11th in Tuškanac cinema. After the projection you can share your impressions with the director Edon Rizvanolli.

 

Nicolo Donato 

 

Nicolo Donato is a Danish director who started his career in music spots for Danish rappers Clemens, Moi Caprice and The Raveonettes, and has a history of several short films. His short film “Togetherness” was played at the Cannes Film Festival, and was nominated at the International Film Festival in Seoul for category Best International Film. Donato's debut film “Brotherhood” won the Best Film Award at the International Film Festival in Rome in 2009.

In Zagreb, he is presenting his feature film “Over the Sea”,  that deals with the survival of one family and many other Jews who flee to Gilleley in the hope that local fishermen will help them cross into Sweden. The film will be played in Europa cinema, on April 11 at 6.30 P.M and you will be able to discuss to can talk to Nicolo right after the projection.

 

Ken Winikur

 

We are also pleased to host Ken Winikur, an independent documentary director who will present his film “A Call to Remember/The Story of David Schaechter” to Zagreb audience.

In this half-hour documentary, Ken is telling us the story of David Schaechter story, from his childhood in the village, through a joint struggle with brother Jakob for survival in Auschwitz and, finally, David's dramatic escape during the Allied attack. The projection will take place on April 10 EUROPA cinema starting at 5:15 P.M. and after the projection the director Ken Winikur will join us in a discussion.

 

 

Iara Lee

 

Along with the projection of the “Bukanabe Rising” film in Kinoteka cinema, you will have the opportunity tomeet with the director and activist Lara Lee, also the founder/director of Cultures of Resistance Network, an organization that promotes global solidarity, blends and supports agitators, educators, farmers and artists with the goal of building a just world through creative resistance and non-violent action. She is a longtime advocate of Greenpeace, Doctors Without Borders, Amnesty International, and many other organizations through her work in the Cultures of Resistance Network.

Lara has a number of feature lengths and a large number of short documentary films, and at the Festival of Tolerance she comes with her latest project of “Burkinabe Rebellion: The Art of Resistance in Burkina Faso”

Firas Fayyad

 

A writer, producer, filmmaker, editor and  the director with Oscar nomination. His works deal with issues of refugee crisis, Syria's state and political transformations in the world, and he is best known for the latest film “Last One in Aleph”, which has won more than 30 awards. The film had its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in 2017, where Fayyad won the jury award, and you can see it on April 10 in Europa cinema.

After the film, feel free to discussion with Fayyad and share your impressions which are guaranteed to be overwhelming.

 

Nika Šaravanja

 

Nika Šaravanja was born in 1985 in Zagreb. She studied at the Zagreb School of Economics and Management and is currently studying directing at the Zelig School of Documentary Film in Bolzano, Italy. To date, her work was largely based on photography, but now she has started experimenting with film, the passion she has discovered during her journeys.

 

Nika is coming to the Festival of Tolerance to present her documentary film “Sunset Quire - based on the "excerpts of extinction" by David Monacchi”. In the film you can follow the eco-acoustic composer Monacchi in his quest for a pure continuous 3D sound that he wants to record for 24 hours in the area of the world's largest biodiversity, in the remote Ecuadorian rainforests.

 

Come meet Nika and her documentary on April 13 at 7 P.M. in Kinoteka cinema.

 

Efraim Zuroff 

 

Efraim Zuroff is an Israeli-American historian who played an important role in revealing the Nazis that have been brought before court over the past 28 years. Zuroff is the director of the Simon Wiesenthal Centre in Jerusalem. He investigates Nazi crimes around the world for the centre and is the author of the annual Status Report that talks about Nazi investigations and extraditions around the world. It is particularly famous in Croatia because he traced the commander of the Jasenovac Collection Camp, Dinko Šakić, who was in Argentina. He was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2008, and received many acknowledgements in various countries

 

At the Festival of Tolerance he will present his book " Operation The Last Chance: A Chase after Nazi Criminals". Apart from the author, former President of the Republic of Croatia Stjepan Mesić and Fraktura’s editor Seid Serdarević will also talk about the book.

Angelica Dass

 

Angelica Dass is a Brazilian artist who lives and works in Madrid. She is internationally recognized through her key project, Humanae - a collection of portrait photographs that reveal the true beauty of human colours. The project was presented at numerous exhibitions and forums across the continent, and through TED Global in Vancouver in 2016, her attitudes and philosophy reached a wide audience all over the world. In 2014 she was chosen for Time Magazine as one of the nine Brazilian photographers one must follow.

You can see her exhibition from today in Zagreb. Portraits are set up on several locations in the city center (Zagreb Main Station, Ban Josip Jelačić Square, Petar Preradović Square, Trg Republicof Croatia Square, Dežman's Passage) and you can meet and listen to the artist on Monday at 11:00 A.M. in Europa cinema.

 

Silvia Grav

 

Silvia Grav was born in Spain in 1993. Her work became known for her release at Juxtapoz and many other blogs and cultural magazines. Flickr chose one of the "20 Under 20s" prizes awarded to the best young photographers around the world and that opportunity took her to the United States. Since then, she lives in Los Angeles and has been exhibiting worldwide for many different projects for companies like HBO, Droga5, Elastic, Lexus, Concord Music, Ninja Tune, etc. She also holds workshops and conferences around the world describing her experience as a young artist.

Silvia Grav’s - "About holokaust" exhibition will be presented at the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb and Ms Grav will, as part of her participation at the 12th Festival of Tolerance, also host a lecture on the theme of the exhibition at the Archaeological Museum Gallery on April 11 starting at 5:30 P.M.
