We are proud of another festival location! For many Zagreb citizens Kinoteka cinema represents their first encounter with the world of films, it is impossible to delete its weekend matinees from childhood memories. Based on this legacy, from April 12 to 14, Kinoteka cinema brings us interesting documentary premieres, feature and short films, and Tolerance talk, a round table on subject of "The Golden Years", which examines the third life age.
Festival programme begins on Thursday, April 12, with the documentary "The Foreign Country" following the middle-age life intersections of two incredible men and their encounter with someone who has lost everything in the ongoing Israeli conflict and yet is not subjected to hatred. This is an important film offering a profound insight into how things can be clearer from the distance and about the idea that the time has come for a new beginning. It is preceded by the short film "Happy Way," although the greatest treat of tomorrow is "Burkinabe rising: The Art of Resistance in Burkina Faso", a documentary by Lara Lee, documenting the creative and nonviolent resistance of individuals in Burkina Faso, a small country in the West of Africa, a common target of wars and attacks.
Friday is expecting us with the intriguing film "Lives Well Lived", which celebrates the incredible wit, wisdom and experience of people between 75 and 100 years of age. Through intimate memories and inspiring personal history that includes over 3,000 years of experience, forty people share their secrets and insights into what it means to lead a meaningful life. These men and women include us in their journey to old age through family histories, personal victories and tragedies, love and losses, demonstrating the worst and best aspects of mankind. Their stories will make you laugh, maybe even cry, but most of all it will definitely inspire you. After the film and the round table, it will the time for the weekend’s highlight because the documentary that follows is nothing like anything you might have seen so far.
"The Sunset Quire," based on "The Fragments of Extinction" by David Monacchi, who follows the eco-acoustic composer in search of a pure, continuous 3D sound wanting to record 24 hours in the world with the greatest worldwide biodiversity, in the remote Ecuador rainforests. The unique experience of listening to the fragments of the disappearing sound heritage of millions of years of evolution will bring you the true audio-video treat in the form of a documentary that received much more rewards than there are words written about it. That's why it is almost impossible to describe it, so let us bring you a truly unique film story, a sort of a pinnacle of the era of cinematography following various occurrences in nature, that has always been the greatest human inspiration.
