Festival of Tolerance has since its beginnings been encouraging volunteer work that, regardless of nationality, religion, socioeconomic status and age, contributs to positive change in society.
The organizer has noted that volunteering is mostly popular with students and younger, mainly unemployed portion of society, on this and on other cultural projects in the country. In order for volunteering to be recognized and encouraged with the elderly, the Festival has in its fourth edition introduced a new practice of developing intergenerational solidarity through volunteering in culture. We promoted the idea by visiting retirement homes and affirming their wards to get actively involved in the organization and implementation of the project because the need of society as a whole is that the elderly again become active and consequently still feel needed and socially useful. It is this practice we want to convey to the Festival in Ljubljana, believing that one day it will reach the popularity of volunteering as in Zagreb.
Throughout the year the project has over 150 volunteers.
Applications for volunteers last until January 15th.
