Domino is a non-governmental, non-partisan, non-profit association with a headquarters in Zagreb, striving to re-examine traditional and transform oppressive norms in transitional society through culture, media, public policies, education and collaboration with local and international organisations. Domino’s vision is to create a society aware of the norms limiting the freedom of creative artistic and queer expression which is subversive but harmless. This expression is mostly visible through independent boundary-shifting artistic expressions that critically redefine existing social norms. For that reason, we need to build a social environment in which independent culture will be able to manifest itself more freely in different forms and different stakeholders. The association implements its activities and realises its mission in four main sections: culture, media, education and politics.
At the 14th Festival of Tolerance the association will introduce itself with a programme of reading picture books Rano ujutro (Pronto por la manana) and Nije vrijeme za igru (No es hora de jugar) by American author Lawrence Schimel, aiming to sensitise the public through literature, especially children and young readers and their parents. Attention will be paid to the importance of introducing children from a very early age with all sorts of families and communities, not only rainbow family children, but also their friends and peers from the kindergarten, playgrounds etc., consequently parents and caretakers too.
