On 6 June, the association organized in Rijeka its last educational program for young people during the school year 2016/2017. This is a program of Film and Discussion, which is being carried out with the aim of turning the attention of the young and sensitized to the existence and forms of intolerance and discrimination and encouraging them to be seen through the film as media and discussion as a means of engagement of the individual reflection and action.
The program realized at Art Cinema Croatia was held on the topic of living with disabilities and the integration of (young) people with disabilities into the environment. The program began by displaying five short films from the series “The Same and Different”, which won the Emmy Award in the Child Educational Program category and was nominated for BAFTA. It is about short documentary portraits of boys and girls who, despite their disabilities and mental health problems, are successfully integrated into their environment and point out their positive approach.
After the screening, Vanja Daskalović moderated discussion, with Denis Marijon, Chairman of the SUMSI Alliance, Albina Žnidar, Rehabilitation Professor and Natasa Tomljanović, Educational Rehabilitator at the Center for Education Rijeka. The panelists approached the students with what social and infrastructural difficulties they face with disabilities and their contribution to the community and made several simple demonstrations and answered questions from the audience.
The program attended 250 students of the final grades of elementary schools in Rijeka, and the program was co-financed by funds of the Ministry of Science and Education and the Croatian Audiovisual Center.
