Film Bag of Marbles will be screened before the lecture.
Occupied France, 1942. Convinced that dividing up their family is their best hope of escaping the upcoming round-ups, parents instruct 10-year-old Joseph and his little bit older brother to flee, with the goal of reaching the „Free Zone“ in southern France. Relying on their own intelligence, wit and occasional aid from strangers, the boys embark on a dangerous mission, hoping that one day they will reunite with their family. Their lives depend on a single lie. They can't reveal that they are Jews.
The film is based upon a renowned autobiographical novel by Joseph Joffo, translated into 18 languages, and presented through the eyes of these young brothers. It brings to the screen an extraordinary scenery, detailed presentation of the historical period of WWII and exceptional acting performances.
After the screening, Holocaust survivors Branko Lustig and Dan Dragutin Bar-Sela will give their testimony to the audience, while Miljenko Hajdarović will moderate the talk.
